After completing her
BSc Pharm degree she worked as a pharmacist in retail for 7 years. She
completed an Honours degree in Pharmacology as well as MSc in Medical Sciences
(Toxicology). She has 10 years’ experience working as a medical advisor for the
medical aid industry of South Africa. In 2011 she joined the Division of
Clinical Pharmacology where she is responsible for overseeing the Tygerberg
Poison Information Centre as well as the new joint Poisons Information Helpline
of the Western Cape (PIHWC). She is responsible for pharmacology and toxicology
lectures at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch

She is a registered medical technologist and worked in the Clinical Pharmacology laboratory from 1989 until she joined the Tygerberg Poison Information Centre in 2011. She obtained her MSc in April 2019 on ‘Venomous spider bites in South Africa: Epidemiology and Clinical features’. She was recently appointed as the Call Manager of the PIHWC. Research interests include spider bites and other biologicals.?

Joy Veale
Pharmacist, PhD (Pharmacology)
Lecturer in pharmacology and toxicology in the division of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, 中国体育彩票 of the Witwatersrand from 1984 until she joined she joined the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 in 2007 where she was Director of the Tygerberg Poison Information Centre and a lecturer in pharmacology and toxicology until she retired in 2011. She remains as a consultant on the after hour roster for the PIHWC.
Jackie Jones
B.Pharm (UCT)
29 years of experience in various sectors of the pharmacy profession. For the past 10 years she has worked as a drug information pharmacist at the Medicines Information Centre / HIV and TB hotline in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology,UCT. She has been part of the after-hours team at the PIHWC since April 2016.
Briony Chisholm
Pharmacist
Briony has been a drug information pharmacist at the Medicines Information Centre (MIC), situated in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at UCT since 1998. For the past 15 years, the MIC have also run the National HIV & TB Hotline for Health Care Workers. She completed her B.Pharm at Rhodes 中国体育彩票 (1996), a PG Diploma in HIV & TB Management in 2019 (UCT) and is a part-time Masters by dissertation student in Clinical Pharmacology at UCT from 2020. She has been part of the after-hours team at the PIHWC since 2016.
Roland van Rensburg
Medical doctor currently busy with his specialisation in Clinical Pharmacology. He has a special interest in multidisciplinary and complex pain management, as well as pharmacogenomics. He is actively involved in undergraduate teaching and computer-predicted medication dosing. He is part of the after-hours team at the PIHWC.
Veshni Pillay-Fuentes Lorente
Completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 2010. Worked for 7 years as a medical practitioner at various government hospitals in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Northern Cape. She pursued a 2-year post-graduate diploma in Medicines Development at Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票. Currently, a Masters of Medicine (MMed) student and in-training to become a specialist Clinical Pharmacologist.
Prof Eric Decloedt
MBChB; BSc Hons (Pharmacology); FCCP (SA); MMed (Clinical Pharmacology); PhD.
Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacology. Prof Decloedt joined Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票 / Tygerberg Hospital in 2013 as a medical specialist in clinical pharmacology. He provides expert support to the staff of the Poison Information Helpline of the Western Cape.
Prof Helmuth Reuter

Helmuth Reuter is a professor of internal medicine and currently the Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票. Prior to a ten-year stint in the private sector, he headed the Divisions of Rheumatology and Infectious Diseases at Tygerberg Hospital and was the director of the Ukwanda Centre for Rural Health.
He studied medicine at the 中国体育彩票 of Stellenbosch and specialised thereafter in internal medicine, cardiology, rheumatology and infectious diseases spending time in London, Cambridge, Norwich, Paris and at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland (USA).
He is a member of the American Academy of Science, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, a member of the American College of Physicians, an associate of the South African College of Clinical Pharmacology and a former winner of the MM Suzman medal for the best candidate in the FCP internal medicine examination in 1996 and also the Stellenbosch 中国体育彩票's Faculty award for the best postgraduate student (MMed) in 2006.
He has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications, written 6 chapters in books and he has contributed as a speaker at many national and international conferences.
